Learning to scat -- hey, since I already improvise on violin, why not with my voice? Kool! Very fun with Charlie Parker solos.

Off to NYC!

I'm very excited about going to NYC this week for 2 months to study jazz violin at the NY Jazz Academy. I'll have an intensive schedule, great professors, and anticipate ramping up my improv chops a lot. Between my classes, jazz-club crawling, the Met Opera, all of the museums, bicycling in C. Park, seeing old and new friends, jamming, and haunting funky 2nd hand stores, I will have an incredible time.

A jazzer friend will be house-sitting for me, so the house will still be full of music.

Every once in awhile I just have to kick myself out of my environs, gorgeous as they are in CO, and throw myself out there. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time.

Livin' the dream!

N'Yawk

Going to NYC for 2 months to study jazz violin at the NY Jazz Academy, and with jazz violinist / violist Mat Maneri. I look forward to walks and bike rides in C. Park, visits to the Met Museum and of course the Metropolitan Opera, Village Vanguard and other jazz clubs, and exploring funky neighborhoods.

More jazzzzzzz ...........

Played with a great jazz pianist this am in Lyons, and she's invited me to play a gig on Fri., Nov. 4th in Lyons at the faaaancy schmaaancy Lionsgate Event Center for a Lyons Community Foundation fundraiser. She likes the standards and also "the heavies," as she calls 'em (hard swing, bebop, blues - Coltrane, Monk. Clifford Brown, W. Shorter, etc.) as do I.

Jazzin' it

Recently got back from 2 fabulous weeks at Jamey Aebersold jazz workshop, getting the immense privilege of spending 3 hours a day with David Baker -- 1.5 in theory class, and 1.5 in master class.  David and his jazz flutist wife Lida are incredible spirits!
